Analysis and Mitigation of the Communication Delay Impacts on Wind Farm Central SSI Damping Controller

The use of supplementary controllers for mitigating subsynchronous interaction (SSI) in series compensated DFIG-based wind farms is quite promising due to high effectiveness and low cost. Implementation such a controller requires effective communications between individual turbines the farm controller, where control performance very much affected by communication delays involved. This paper delivers first detailed analysis on impact SSI damping performance. A novel algorithm proposed calculate stability delay margin (SDM) closed-loop system based Rekasius Substitution Guardian Map Theorem with advantage reduced computational burden particularly high-order systems. Based algorithm, impacts operating conditions turbine parameters SDM are investigated. To strengthen against delays, Smith predictor scheme also developed. framework immune validated through Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) simulations realistic test multiple capacitor lines considering various operation conditions.
